Three days of vegan street food, live music and free entry on Vienna’s Danube Island. VeganMania has been running since 1998, organised by the Vegan Society Austria, and bills itself as Austria’s biggest street food festival and Europe’s biggest vegan one. The September edition on the Donauinsel is the year’s largest, right by the water with sunset views.
What to expect
- Street food: arancini, Ethiopian plates, momos, lángos, bao buns, hot dogs, churros, all fully vegan
- Market: sustainable fashion, natural cosmetics, jewellery, animal rights groups
- Live music across all three days, from retro soul to reggae and indie pop
- Extras: free yoga sessions, a chess challenge against grandmaster Rainer Buhmann, a kids’ magic show on Sunday
Practical info
- When: Friday 18 September 2pm–9pm, Saturday 11am–9pm, Sunday 11am–7pm
- Where: Donauinsel at the U6, between Floridsdorfer and Brigittenauer bridges, Vienna (U6 stops Neue Donau or Handelskai)
- Admission: free
- Bring cash: some stalls don’t take cards, the nearest ATM is at U6 Handelskai station
