The trend for vegan specialties is getting bigger and bigger at the Wiesn: From organic sauerkraut strudel, pan-fried vegetables and lamb’s lettuce on kohlrabi carpaccio to soy steak with melted onions and quinoa on pea-mint puree, the Wiesn provides numerous alternatives for vegans.
Right up front: Wiesn host Michael Käfer – he offers numerous vegan dishes in his tents. Vegan dishes for Oktoberfest are still planned and as a permanent feature on the menu at Käfer Stammhaus. The so-called “vegan Pflanzerl” is made according to the recipe of the Greenforce Pflanzerl from textured pea protein obtained from organic peas. For this purpose, a production process developed over seven years is usedto obtain high-quality protein from peas. This is just one example of many.
The Ochsenbraterei of all things nevertheless relatively clearly positioned by the name announced in addition that it engaged the prominent cook Sebastian Copien , in order to bring vegan specialities on the map of the tent. And Käfer now also offers Greenforceproducts in its Käfer-Wiesenschänke – as it has for some time in its delicatessen temple on Prinzregentenstrasse.
So as you can see, these days it’s absolutely no problem to feast your way through Oktoberfest vegan!

Can’t make it to Oktoberfest this year? No problem!
We have prepared some tips for you on how to bring this year’s Oktoberfest to your home and thus bring the Wiesn atmosphere into your own four walls or your garden.
Vegan meadow decoration
One thing must not be missing at the Oktoberfest in any case – the right decoration! Even with a little table decoration in Bavarian style, you can bring an exuberant party atmosphere into your four walls. When it comes to decorations, make sure you avoid plastic and plastic and use paper and maybe even make something yourself. With old wooden clothespins, which you label with the names of your friends or write a nice saying on them and staple on the napkins, you can make creative Wiesn Klupperl. Or you can make a gingerbread heart out of brown paper or wood and write a funny saying or the names of your loved ones in the middle. To bring the Oktoberfest to your home, there are many possibilities – there are no limits to your creativity.
Vegan Wiesn dishes
Now we come to the most important: Vegan Wiesn dishes. What would Oktoberfest be at home without tasty dishes that make us feel as if we were on the spot at the Wiesn. Just the delicious smell and the pleasure after real palate pleasure, revive old memories. Oktoberfest time is only once a year and you can have a good time.
So that you can enjoy this time so right, we have put together for you delicious, vegan recipes with which you can enchant your loved ones. Vegan veal sausage with Obazda with pretzel and mustard, vegan liver loaf with potato salad and sweet gingerbread hearts and other delicious variations are waiting for you.
For the recipes, we use only high-quality plant-based products that are produced gently and in an environmentally friendly manner. EDEKA offers with its own brand range a diverse selection of vegan foods, which you can also buy at an affordable price. EDEKA recently launched its own brand vehappy, which makes shopping especially easy for vegans. From vegan plant-based drinks made with organic ingredients and no preservatives, to vehappy soyurts, to tofu variations from EDEKA Bio +, there are countless uses for your vegan Oktoberfest menu.
Vegan Oktoberfest costume without leather
Of course, you should not only pay attention to the ingredients and components when it comes to vegan recipes and matching decorations for Oktoberfest, you should also be careful when choosing traditional costumes. The traditional tapping of the barrel and the Wiesn Gaudi include the classic lederhosen and a chic dirndl.
But these are not the best solution for us vegans. Because the traditional costume is produced anything but animal-friendly, which is why you can fall back on suitable alternatives here. With the Dirndl or your leather pants you pay attention best to the label. Especially with leather pants, make sure that they are traditionally made of genuine animal leather. But there are already great leather-free and animal-friendly traditional costume pants, such as the “Lederhosen” unique pieces from the Austrian manufacturer André Zechmann, which were woven from dense organic cotton and are a real eye-catcher. Also, when it comes to embellishments and buttons, you should make sure that no beads, horns or legs have been included. So you can start the Oktoberfest season in a sustainable and animal-friendly way and with a clear conscience.
Is beer actually vegan?
For many vegan Oktoberfest visitors one of the most important questions – Is beer actually vegan?
The answer: Yes. At least in Germany. Since the Purity Law in Germany also regulates the beer production process, the German Brewers Association says in this regard, “The Purity Law provides clear specifications for the production of beer, according to which animal substances such as gelatin or isinglass are not permitted.”
In other countries, however, it does. While many breweries, such as in the UK, have now stopped using fish bladder products for filtration – not all have yet. There are now enough plant substances and technical processes that clarify beer just as well. In addition, there are now more and more breweries that print the Vegan Society’s Vegan Lable on their bottles. So you can drink them with peace of mind without having to read labels for hours. But if you really want to be sure and don’t want fish in your beer, you should ask the brewery or look for the Vegan Society’s Vegan logo on the label.
Even in this country, there is still a small catch – some labels on beer bottles adhere with a glue that contains casein of animal origin. The beer is then vegan, but the bottle is not. It’s even more complicated with mixed beer drinks, which are often not vegan due to flavorings and colorings. The colorant “true carmine” (E 120), for example, is obtained from scale insects and is found in some mixed drinks, according to the consumer advice center.
What many do not know: wine is often not vegan either. You can find out more here .
So you see, even as a vegan you now have a variety of options to enjoy the Oktoberfest to the fullest. And it doesn’t matter whether you’re at the Wiesn or at home. Without renunciation and very simple. Have fun celebrating!
