Tomorrowland kicked off its second 2026 weekend in Boom near Antwerp on July 24, once again with hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world. Between mainstage goosebumps and glitter, something is happening that is still rare in the festival world: the biggest electronic music festival on the planet is rebuilding its entire food offering. And PETA is pushing for more.

What Love Tomorrow is actually planning

Behind the shift is the festival's own program Love Tomorrow, which organizes sustainability across five pillars, from nature conservation to health. On the food side, the roadmap looks like this: by 2030, 70 percent of the dishes at general admission stands should be vegetarian or vegan. A dedicated label, the Love Tomorrow Value Label, already marks dishes that are plant-based, locally sourced or prepared with a low resource footprint. Surplus food is donated to local food banks after the festival.

Why PETA is turning up the pressure

PETA Germany is using the 70 percent goal as a springboard for its own demand: Tomorrowland should serve exclusively vegan food and drinks from 2027. The argument: a festival that reaches hundreds of thousands of people from every corner of the world, and that puts a better future on its banners, could inspire millions toward climate-friendly and animal-friendly choices with a fully plant-based lineup instead of stopping halfway.

That there is still a gap becomes obvious in the festival's fine dining restaurant: this year's menu features guinea fowl as a main course. The main victims of the food question remain the animals whose meat, milk and eggs end up on the plates, including the ones with festival wristbands next to them.

The fireworks ban as a wake-up call

How urgent the climate argument is, the festival experienced firsthand this year: fireworks and pyrotechnics were completely banned during weekend one (July 17 to 19) because of drought and elevated wildfire risk. The mayors of Boom and Rumst made the call together with the governor of the province of Antwerp, covering the festival grounds at De Schorre and the DreamVille campsite. And weekend two is not back to normal either: no large-scale fireworks, only limited pyrotechnics at the Main Stage.

A festival whose signature fireworks fall victim to the climate crisis while it decarbonizes its food at the same time: it is hard to illustrate the connection between plate and planet more clearly. Especially since animal agriculture is one of the biggest drivers of emissions and land use.
