Some people get a tattoo of an ex. Moby got “vegan for life” inked across his neck and “animal rights” across both forearms. If you came here wondering whether Moby is vegan, the man has literally made his body the FAQ page.
But let’s do this properly, because the numbers are absurd. Moby went vegan in November 1987. That’s 39 years by 2026. No documented lapses, no “wellness pivot”, no quiet salmon phase. Just one of the longest continuous vegan streaks in popular music, wrapped in techno, punk attitude and an unreasonable amount of generosity.
Yes, Moby is vegan. He has been since November 1987, which makes 2026 his 39th vegan year. He calls animal rights his actual “main job in life” and is donating 100% of his Coachella 2026 profits to four animal rights organizations.

It started with a cat from a dump
Moby’s origin story is the best kind: small, specific and completely disarming. As a kid he found a kitten at a garbage dump in Connecticut and named him Tucker. Years later, sitting with Tucker on the stairs, the logic hit him: he would never hurt this animal. So why pay someone to hurt others? He told the whole story in his TEDx talk “Why I’m a Vegan”.
Vegetarian in 1984, vegan by November 1987. He was 22. Nirvana hadn’t released a record yet. That’s the timescale we’re dealing with.

What he’s actually said
When Consequence asked about the Coachella donation in April 2026, his answer doubled as a job description:
“My main job in life is working as an animal rights activist, and to that end my hope is to use the revenue and attention from my Coachella show to draw attention to, and financially support, animal rights organizations.”
And the mission statement he’s repeated for decades, via VegNews: “Working to create a world wherein animals are allowed to live their own lives, free from human interference, is my life’s work.”
The restaurant that keeps giving
Little Pine deserves its own paragraph. For seven years it was LA’s proof that a vegan bistro could be both beloved and principled, with profits earmarked for animal organizations. It closed in December 2022, but the story has a sequel: the space is becoming Argento, the vegan restaurant backed by Billie Eilish. One generation of vegan musicians handing the keys to the next, literally. We covered Billie’s side of that story here.
Fact or fiction?

Yes, and the evidence is fresher than most artists’ tour posters. The April 2026 Coachella pledge, the Vegan Camp Out 2026 speaker slot, the 39th anniversary. If Moby ever stops being vegan, he’d have to explain it to his own forearms first.
In September 2026 he lent his face to a German animal rights case: Moby backs the activists of Germany’s slaughterhouse trial.
Punk and hardcore built a surprising amount of vegan history, and Moby documented it himself. For the current generation of that lineage, check whether Travis Barker is still vegan, or read why Bring Me The Horizon’s latest single sounds like a slaughterhouse.
